When an important kitchen appliance breaks down our instincts are to head to the shops and buy a new one, however is this the right thing to do?
Quite simply, no.
Instead of buying a new machine, it can be a lot better for you to get your current one repaired. Better for your pocket, and the environment in most cases. Chances are that when your appliance breaks down, it’s a simply quick fix that can be done in no time and a very small cost. You’d be suprised at the amount of people who buy a new machine when they could have had their old one fixed with no new parts needed. Of course there are some instances where a repair can be more expensive and therefore not worth it, but that’s a very small chance and it’s always worth having an engineer out to have a look before you assume its too expensive to fix.
Not only can it be cheaper to repair, but you are also doing your part to help the planet! Did you know 20 to 50 million metric tonnes of e-waste is desposed each year and contributes to 70% of all toxic waste. Crazy!
So next time you jump in your car to go and pick up a new appliance – stop and have a think, would it be better to repair? (Yes!)
